Thursday Aug 12

After taking a 5 min. walk down an overgrown path we checked out the beach and decided we would spend most of tomorrow there. Today we are taking a short ferry ride to visit some of Karen’s old family friends, Ruth and Eva at their summer house.

The ferry we took was quite small and clearly had been at work for a number of years. The ride was great and I have to say the harbors were quite scenic. We were meet at the ferry landing by Eva who took Thomas, Nina, and Knut in her car.We followed back to the summer house, about a 5 min. drive.

We were shortly joined by Telse who had driven up for the late lunch we were to have. Now Ruth, is famus for the lunches she puts on and in my experience Scandinavian's live for long lunches First a fish course, then cheese, then meat, and trust me if you do them out of order or with the wrong bread everyone will shake their heads in a way that I have come to understand means “Crazy Americans!”, but Thomas was with me and we ate as we liked.

The food was absolutely wonderfull. I’m particularly fond of the liver pate on rye bread with pickled beets. After lunch was time for walks to the beach and playing in the yard. Nina inparticular had a good time playing tiger in the yard with Emma and Lizzie. We eventually said our good byes and head out to catch the ferry back.
