Friday Aug 13

We got up today and it was a little cloudy and breeze, perfect weather for the beach. Karen and Nina decided to into the little town near by to pick up supplies and just to walk the path. The girls and I got on suits and headed down to the beach. Thomas came as well but quickly headed off on a photo safari. Knut joined us after a while. We had a great time running in and out of the water and building a sandcastle/swimming pool. Nina and Karen returned and we headed up to the house for lunch.

After lunch we headed off to the playground and then back to the beach. Here’s what I wrote at the time:

I’m sitting on the beach of Gilleleje watching Karen play in the surf with Emma and Lizzie. I’m looking forward to the next week with more than a little trepidation. Even though Knut and Nina will be here it is still going to be interesting watching Emma and Lizzie basically by myself. Karen is such a great mom, we are going to miss her for the six days we’ll be apart.

Karen and the girls had a great time and we took a couple of tired girls up to the house to get dinner started and great our guests. Karen’s cousin Sine and Thomas’s oldest friend Niels both came up to visit. We had a wonderful dinner and then sat around talking and talking. We ended the evening with a night hike to lay on the hillside above the beach and look for shooting stars. Truly a wonderful way for Karen to end her vacation.
