Tuesday Aug 17

Ok I'm home now and I'm going to use the email that I sent to karen as the basis for the postcards so here we go:

Just a quick note on how today went, we got up early(~6:45) and got ready for school. Dressed and feed, things went well. At ~8:00 we left for Telsa's and dropped Lizzie off to stay with the gang over there. Then in to Maribo to Sila's school. It's a Catholic private school but it's very nice. Emma was excited and scared, we put the bags away next to Sila's desk then back out into the yard to play with Sila's friends. Emma was relatively OK with holding Sila's hand and going around to play.

Then back to the entrance hall for morning prayers and a hymn. The first lesson of the day was Danish the teacher was very nice and she is the one who Ida knows best I believe. Emma was interested and the teacher had all the student introduce them selves. The studnet had decorated the black board welcoming Emma to the class. Then a quick break Emma left with Sila and here group, while the teacher showed me where she would be teaching english for the next hour if Emma would let me stop by. The next class was, with a different teacher, Christendom or something to that effect it was actually interesting, basically an ecology lesson. A lot of discussion about some text and pictures from a work book. Then there was a 25 min. break for lunch at around ~10:00, quite early, but the teacher said many of the students get up early and are frequently hungry by then.

The teacher also told me that in the younger grades they start lunch the last 10 min of the class before because otherwise the kids don't eat as they would rather play. I had packed Emma a lunch and she was happy to eat it like the big kids were. Then she wanted to go out and play before Sila was ready, we went out in to the yard and found one of Sila's most out going friends, Maya, on the swings Emma got on the swing next to her and I gave a couple of pushes. I asked Emma if it would be OK if I went to the teachers lounge she said yes. I asked Maya to play with Emma and come get me if there was a problem. Maya look very pleased and was happy to be playing with Emma. As I was walking to the lounge Sila came out and I told her what I was doing as well. I was in the teachers lounge for about 15 min when Sila and a group of girls brought Emma to me, Emma wasn't crying but she had wanted me. We headed back to the classroom for Math, and that was it!

School was over for the girls for the day, the boys had PE for another 2 hours. The girls have theirs on Thursday. I took the girls to get pølse and then back to Telsa's to play for the rest of the afternoon. Fort building be the most popular game, with visiting the horses a close second.Lizzie and your Nina had a good time watching Knut weeding the vegatable patch. Silka come over a bit later and had a great time playing with Lizzie. All in all a great day. The only caveat is that getting to bed for the last two night has been a royal nightmare! Both Emma and Lizzie crying, and Lizzie totally freaking out. I think tomorrow I'm going to try and keep them up later and get them to fall asleep in the car. They talk about you, particularly at bed time.
